CAIRO, Nov 2 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called on Sunday Arab countries to pressure the international community to compel the Israeli occupation, to fully withdraw from Lebanese territories and release Lebanese prisoners.
Salam made this speech before the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives, in the presence of Kuwait's Permanent Representative Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi.
Salam said that Lebanon has abided by the cessation of hostilities in accordance with Resolution 1701, yet Israeli occupation violations continue and parts of Lebanese land remain occupied, and the file of prisoners and missing persons has not been closed.
Lebanon is opening a new chapter in its history by adopting a comprehensive reform policy across its institutions and economy, while strengthening its sovereignty over all its territories, he added.
He expressed appreciation for the solidarity of Arab countries with Lebanon in facing its economic and political crises, and pride in the Arab League's history and its role in transforming historical ties into institutional joint action.
In this context, Salam affirmed that Palestine remains the central cause, and the goal today is to end the occupation, halt settlement activities, protect civilians, and support the recognition of the State of Palestine.
He concluded his speech by stressing that what is required from Arab states is to build realistic partnerships based on shared strategic interests. (end) mm.ahs
