WASHINGTON, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump announced intention to resume nuclear weapons testing, which had been halted since 1992, in response to ongoing experiments conducted by rival nations such as China and Russia.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday, ahead of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea at the conclusion of his Asian tour, Trump said, "Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis."
He affirmed that the United States possesses the largest nuclear arsenal, adding that the renewed nuclear tests would begin immediately.
The announcement came only hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed a successful test of an underwater drone capable of carrying nuclear warheads. (end)
