KUWAIT, Oct 29 (KUNA) - Director General of the Interior Ministry's General Directorate of Coast Guard, Commodore Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al-Sabah, affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries' Coast Guard and Border Guard Day is an annual occasion to celebrate the noble efforts of the agencies.
This came in a speech delivered by Commodore Al-Sabah during an event held by Kuwait's Coast Guard at Sabah Al-Ahmad Coast Guard Base on Wednesday, with representatives from the GCC's Coast Guard Directors present, and several heads of diplomatic missions.
He added that this day is not only a celebratory occasion, but also a platform for a professional exchange of experiences and expertise, enhancing field coordination, and consolidating the concepts of joint security work, which contributes to strengthening the security of the borders and territorial waters of the GCC countries.
He emphasized that GCC unity and the cohesion of security agencies are a source of strength and a driving force for continued success and the ability to face challenges with confidence and competence.
The General Directorate of Coast Guard in Kuwait has witnessed significant developmental steps over the past two years, characterized by scientific planning and an institutional approach, based on a strategic vision aimed at raising performance efficiency and improving the maritime command and control system.
Commodore Al-Sabah explained that among the most prominent projects implemented within this framework is the Coastal Surveillance System Development Project, considered one of the most important strategic projects in the history of the Coast Guard, which combines modern infrastructure with advanced digital systems contributing to enhanced operational capabilities and field readiness.
Furthermore, maritime drones were launched, a pioneering step in the region, enabling the Coast Guard to conduct remote surveillance and patrol missions with high efficiency and advanced safety.
He also reviewed the GeoFace system, which represents the main digital infrastructure of the system which connects all sites, centers, and towers in a unified platform, allowing for real-time monitoring and the accurate and reliable analysis of operational data.
Work is currently underway to establish new operations centers equipped with the latest technologies, along with the construction of modern radar towers equipped with advanced thermal cameras at multiple locations.
This is part of a comprehensive plan to complete the coastal surveillance system, which will be finalized in June 2026, which also includes upgrading navigational aids and replacing them with smart ones, thus enhancing navigational safety and supporting integrated operational performance.
Commodore Al-Sabah conveyed the greetings of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, and his wishes that this occasion would be an incentive for greater cooperation and integration among the coast guard and border guard agencies of the GCC countries.
It is worth noting that the event included an accompanying exhibition showcasing the most prominent achievements, work, and performance of the Gulf coast guard administrations. (end)
