CAIRO, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Egypt's Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi announced the completion of drilling the "Zohr-9" well in the Mediterranean's Zohr gas field, revealing a gas-bearing layer with an estimated production capacity of 70 million cubic feet per day.
Badawi said the well was drilled by the Saipem 10000 vessel in line with safety standards and the planned timetable, as part of the ministry's efforts to secure local gas needs and reduce import costs.
The minister also noted the start of drilling operations for the new exploratory well "Denise W-1X" off the coast of Port Said.
