DOHA, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards has granted OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al-Ghais the "Lifetime Achievement" award, in recognition of his prominent contributions to developing international energy policies and enhancing dialogue diplomacy among producers and consumers.
The gala took place on Wednesday in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the presence of over 300 senior officials, experts, and global energy decision-makers.
In a statement, the Foundation said granting the award to Al-Ghais came as culmination of his distinguished career in backing global oil markets stability and boosting cooperation in energy and sustainable development.
In an exclusive statement to KUNA, Al-Ghais expressed pride for this honoring as recognition of OPEC's pivotal role in global markets' stability.
He added that OPEC has been a main base in global energy system, as it continues its work to ensure supply security and stability, as well as providing fair and sustainable revenues for both consumers and producers.
Oil will remain a main component of the global energy mix, making up 30 percent, he said, noting both oil and gas play a key role in supporting economic growth and development, along clean techniques.
Al-Ghais, of Kuwait, called for continued investment in the energy sector with all its modules, as energy future requires an inclusive vision.
