DOHA, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation Affairs and Chair of the Committee for the Implementation of Security Council Resolutions, Ambassador Hamad Al-Meshaan, reviewed the contributions and achievements of Kuwait and the Republic of Kenya since assuming the joint chairmanship of the Working Group on East Africa of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) at the beginning of 2024.
In a statement delivered on behalf of the East Africa Working Group during the first session of the 25th meeting of the GCTF Coordinating Committee, held in the Qatari capital Doha on Wednesday, Ambassador Al-Meshaan said that Kuwait hosted in October last year a workshop entitled "Disengagement, Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration" in cooperation with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). He added that Kuwait also hosted a GCTF experts meeting on "Enhancing International Judicial Cooperation and Handling Evidence in Terrorism Cases", held on October 15-16 of this year.
Al-Meshaan noted that Kenya hosted two events in its capital, Nairobi, the first on May 30, 2025, a workshop on "Motivational Disengagement Training for Security Officers", which addressed best practices in disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration; and the second on September 2-3, 2025, titled "The Role of Women in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism." He pointed out that in the coming period, the East Africa Working Group aims, as part of its action plan, to organize two upcoming events, the first will be hosted by Kuwait in January next year, focusing on "Protecting Virtual Spaces through Strategic Communications," and the second will be a joint meeting between the East and West Africa Working Groups to be held in March in Nairobi.
The 25th meeting of the GCTF Coordinating Committee kicked off on Monday in Doha, hosted by Qatar from October 20 to 22, and is being held under the co-chairmanship of Egypt and the European Union. (end) sss.onm
