KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet officially opened the Techo International Airport in Kandal Province, a project which cost around USD 2.3 billion.
At the opening ceremony held on Monday, Prime Minister Manet said that the Techo Airport would replace the aging Phnom Penh Airport, affirming that the new airport was a national achievement aimed at boosting the economy and tourism in Cambodia.
He pointed out that the Techo International Airport was a 4F-class facility, a classification for large airports capable of handling large aircraft like the Boeing 747 or Airbus A380.
Techo Airport has been operational since September ninth, revealed the Prime Minister, adding that the project began construction in 2020 and included a main passenger building, runways, support stations, and other facilities at an area of 2,600 hectares. The Airport is at 20 kilometers distance from the capital, Phnom Penh.
The airport has capacity of 13 million passengers and the number is expected to increase to 30 million in 2030, and 45 million by 2050, according to officials in Cambodia.
There are three operating airports in Cambodia the Techo International Airport, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, and Sihanouk International Airport. (end) aab.gta
