TOKYO, Oct 14 (KUNA) - Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya on Tuesday welcomed the release of hostages and the implementation of a cease-fire agreement between Hamas and Israel, calling it an important step toward improving the humanitarian situation in Gaza and realizing a two-state solution.
Japan "wholeheartedly welcomes the release of 20 surviving hostages, the achievement of a cease-fire, and the resumption of humanitarian assistance to Gaza," Iwata told a press conference.
"The signing ceremony held in Egypt on Monday demonstrated the international community's united resolve to work together for sustainable peace and reconstruction," the minister said.
"I pay tribute to the leadership of US President Donald Trump and the tireless diplomatic efforts of the countries concerned, including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye," Iwaya added.
"Japan will continue to work closely with relevant countries and international organizations to ensure the steady implementation of the comprehensive plan," he said, adding that Tokyo will also be actively engaged in humanitarian aid, early recovery, and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
He also reaffirmed Japan's continued commitment to play a practical and proactive role in bringing the realization of a two-state solution one step closer. (end)
