ISLAMABAD, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- At least five attackers and six policemen were killed in a suicide attack targeting a police training center in Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, the military said on Saturday.
According to Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack that took place on Friday night was carried out by militants "belonging to an Indian proxy."
The military said the assailants attempted to breach the perimeter security; however, their nefarious designs were swiftly foiled by the vigilant and resolute response of law enforcement personnel deployed on duty.
In their desperation, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the gate of the training center.
The police personnel engaged the intruders, eliminating three militants "belonging to an Indian proxy" while cornering the remaining two intruding militants in a building complex, who were later neutralized by security forces in a deliberate clearance operation with precision," the ISPR said.
In the intense exchange of fire, six policemen including trainees were killed, 12 others and one innocent civilian got injured.
"The sanitization operations in the area will continue and perpetrators of this heinous and cowardly act will be brought to justice," the military vowed. (end)
