BEIRUT, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday welcomed the initial phase of the agreement reached between the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian Hamas movement aimed at ending the war on Gaza.
In an official statement, President Aoun expressed hope that the agreement would serve as a first step towards a permanent ceasefire and an end to the humanitarian suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people in Gaza.
He stressed the importance of continued international and regional efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just peace that secures the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in line with the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative adopted in Beirut.
President Aoun also urged the Israeli occupation to heed calls from Arab and international leaders to end its aggressive policies in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, to create a conducive environment for lasting peace and regional stability.
US President Donald Trump had announced Wednesday evening the signing of the first phase of the peace plan between Hamas and the Israeli occupation, which includes the imminent release of all hostages and a phased withdrawal of occupation forces. (end) ayb.aai
