KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (KUNA) - Malaysia and Australia on Thursday welcomed progress in negotiations toward a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing support for international efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described the development as a "glimmer of hope" after months of suffering, calling for genuine efforts to end the violence and protect innocent lives, reaffirming Malaysia's solidarity with the Palestinian people and their pursuit of justice and statehood.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump that the Israeli occupation and Hamas had signed the first phase of a peace plan, stressing the need for all parties to respect the agreement and ensure unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He called it a crucial step after more than two years of conflict, hostages, and devastating civilian losses, emphasizing the importance of all parties honoring the agreement to preserve peace and stability. (end)
