DOHA, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- Qatar held Oman to a 0-0 draw as part of the first round of Group A in the Asian World Cup qualifiers due in the US, Canada and Mexico, giving each team one point.
The competition has six teams of two groups: the first one includes Qatar, the UAE, Oman, while Group B contains Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Indonesia.
The team which comes first in each group will qualify to join the six teams which have previously booked a berth at the World Cup tourney.
The runners-up team of the two groups will have a final chance through a two-legged playoff due on November 13 and 18 to determine the team that will represent Asia in the intercontinental playoff.
This team will face some teams from other continents to compete for one of the two additional spots in the World Cup.
The matches are played in a single round-robin format under a centralized system as Qatar Football Association hosts Group A matches, while Saudi Arabia hosts Group A matches. (end)
