PARIS, Oct 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait remains firmly committed towards sustainable development across Palestinian territories, which includes the protection of educational bodies and institutions, a diplomat told a gathering of the UN's cultural agency on Tuesday.
At a time where much of the world, including the Gaza Strip, is in the throes of violence and instability, vital infrastructure across the Palestinian enclave lie in tatters as a result of the destruction, Assistant Foreign Minister for the Affairs of International Organizations Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah said during a session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) executive board.
He went on to underline Kuwait's support for global efforts spearheaded by the US through its proposed Gaza peace plan, which aims to find a definitive solution to the Middle East conflict and subsequently allow the delivery of aid to the Palestinians, he said.
Acknowledging the contributions of the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, he said that the fund helped finance a number of initiatives aiming to prop up development in some of the world's most impoverished countries, many of which have underequipped and ailing education sectors, he said.
The diplomat underscored the importance of education development as among the pillars of Kuwait's "Vision 2035," a long-term development plan that places much emphasis on building a solid education system that helps provide the job market with a competent workforce, he added. (end) nma.nam
