GENEVA, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait reaffirmed, on Wednesday, its deep national commitment to the principle of equality before the law as a key element of its vision for justice and human rights.
This came in a statement by Diplomatic Attache, Heba Al-Sabah, during the interactive dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Independent Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in Law Enforcement, held during the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al-Sabah stressed that fair and transparent law enforcement is the true guarantee of national stability and reinforces public trust in state institutions.
Al-Sabah underlined Kuwait's strong focus on advancing its legislative and judicial system through a comprehensive review of hundreds of laws, amending those that do not align with international standards.
She explained that the legislative reforms included repealing certain penal provisions, raising the legal marriage age to 18, and enacting laws to protect families from domestic violence, in addition to strengthening anti-corruption laws and safeguarding public funds to uphold justice and equality.
Al-Sabah also affirmed that equality in law enforcement must be a universal principle guiding inter-state relations, free from selectivity or double standards, ensuring respect for sovereignty and the protection of peoples' rights.
She renewed Kuwait's commitment to cooperating with the international community to promote the rule of law and achieve security, peace, and sustainable development for all nations. (end)
