KUWAIT, Oct 1 (KUNA) - Kuwait's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Human Rights Department, launched on Wednesday a two-day training workshop in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
This workshop focuses on the application of the "Tool for Mainstreaming Disability Issues in Government Institutional Work," which has been adapted by ESCWA from the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) for application within government entities in Arab countries.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij Al-Sabah said that the workshop reflects Kuwait's commitment to empowering persons with disabilities, in line with directives from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and pursuant to Law No. 8 of 2010, which emphasizes promoting the rights of people with disabilities.
She highlighted Kuwait's efforts to provide an inclusive environment, implement disability-friendly policies, integrate persons with disabilities into society, and enforce employment quotas of no less than 4 percent in government entities.
The initiative aligns with Kuwait's New Kuwait 2035 Vision, the UN Sustainable Development Goals-particularly Goal 10 on reducing inequalities-Kuwait's pledges at the Human Rights Council (2024-2026), and its commitments under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, ratified in 2013.
The workshop brings together international experts on disability issues and representatives from various government bodies to equip participants with skills to strengthen disability inclusion in public service and daily life, ensuring equality of opportunity and fostering a more prosperous, sustainable society.
