KUWAIT, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila affirmed Tuesday the ministry's keenness on promoting the use of sign language to open wider horizons for persons with hearing disabilities.
The Ministry, and the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs, in cooperation with relevant bodies, are pressing ahead with supporting initiatives and training programs to achieve these aims.
In a press statement marking the International Day of Sign Languages, Al-Huwaila said that sign language is not merely a tool for communication, but rather a bridge connecting hearts and minds, embodying society's commitment to the rights of all its members without exception.
She noted that observing this day reflects Kuwait's firm belief in empowering persons with hearing disabilities and ensuring their full participation in social, educational and professional life.
Al-Huwaila stressed that persons with hearing disabilities possess creative talents and outstanding capabilities that deserve all forms of support and care, urging society to spread a culture of respect for diversity and enhance the status of sign language as a universal human language. (end)
