GENEVA, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- GCC countries said on Thursday that respecting sovereignty of countries was important in discussions for just climate transitions.
This came in a speech by Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Nasser Al-Hayen to the 60th session of the Human Rights Council.
Ambassador Al-Hayen affirmed that it was a historic responsibility to achieve just climate transition for the sake of the world's future, a step that required global effort to enable all to achieve this goal.
He stressed that "fairness" and "shared responsibilities" remain central to the Gulf States' approach to climate issues.
He pointed to the GCC investments in renewable energy and sustainable development projects, which would provide job opportunities for people and help achieve international climate goals.
The Ambassador renewed the GCC's calls for constructive talks within the UN to explore opportunities and avoid enforcing measures to achieve the collective goal of the international community. (end)
