WASHINGTON, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to seeking a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, despite skepticism surrounding potential direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stressing his determination for diplomatic progress.
Speaking to CBN News late Wednesday, Trump described himself as "realistic and optimistic," emphasizing that he is closely monitoring the interactions between both leaders during this pivotal stage of negotiations, while carefully balancing expectations with patience and determination.
Trump revealed that he had engaged in discussions with both Putin and Zelensky, noting that while progress remains elusive, he strongly believes momentum will eventually develop, affirming his readiness to push negotiations forward once conditions improve.
Expressing confidence in America's diplomatic role, Trump pledged that the United States would "fix everything" to secure a deal, while confirming his intention to call the Ukrainian president within the coming days.
Trump also condemned Russia's drone attacks on Kyiv, which left at least 15 civilians dead in the past week, voicing frustration over continued violence and emphasizing the need for urgent steps to prevent further escalation.
Reflecting on his diplomatic strategy, Trump reiterated his preference for bringing conflicting leaders together at a single negotiating table to achieve swift agreements, although he admitted that such an approach required patience, persistence, and careful diplomacy. (end)
