TUNIS, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohammad Al-Nafti and a visiting U.S. Congress delegation led by Mike Lawler, Chair of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa of the Foreign Affairs, discussed bilateral ties and trade exchanges late Thursday.
During the meeting, they underlined the deep and firm historical friendly relationship between Tunisia and the U.S., the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release, noting that both sides mark on Thursday the 228th anniversary of their 1797 bilateral peace and friendship agreement.
The Tunisian foreign minister stressed his country's resolve to develop its relationship with Washington by means of stepping up and expanding bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect.
The U.S. congressional team spoke highly of the firm bonds of people-to-people friendship, noting that U.S. Congress attaches great significance to Tunisia's stability, security and economy. (end)
