KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday announced around USD 21 million in humanitarian aid for the population of the Gaza Strip, who have been suffering starvation due to Israeli occupation aggressions.
The Malaysian prime minister made the pledge while addressing a mass gathering in Kuala Lumpur, which draw more than 100,000 people, to demonstrate against the Israeli occupation atrocities in the Palestinian territory.
"Tonight, I announce that Malaysia will contribute another RM 100 million (around USD 21 million) to assist the people of Palestine," he said, referring to a similar aid approved by Malaysia a couple of years ago.
The Malaysian prime minister reiterated his country's continued commitment to supporting the Palestinian people amid their worst humanitarian crisis.
He also flagged off a Gaza Flotilla convoy, saying that it comprises participants from more than 50 countries across the world, including southeast Asian countries.
Speaking to KUNA, President of Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) Ahmad Sani said the three-day gathering came to renew southeast Asian's unity and solidarity with Palestinians.
He elaborated that the First Freedom Flotilla will sail from Spain on August 31, while the second one will take place on September 4. (end)
