MOSCOW, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Sunday accused Western countries of trying to block negotiations over the Ukraine crisis.
Lavrov, in a press statement, said they are also trying to ruin the peace efforts launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting at the Alaska Summit.
In addition, the attempts to undermine the agreement between Moscow and Washington will not succeed; he said, reminding that the process launched by the two presidents has already led to positive results and could become a serious path to negotiations.
Lavrov also criticized Ukraine's internal policies, saying that Zelensky is trying to distract from laws targeting the Russian language and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
He said canceling these laws is a necessary step based on the UN Charter and international law.
Lavrov linked the West's efforts to block talks with Ukraine's internal policies and emphasized that a lasting solution requires respect for language and religious rights and an end to foreign interference in the negotiation process.(end) dan.hs
