CAIRO, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Egypt affirmed on Wednesday the supreme importance of Israeli occupation's response to the US proposal regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to address the current crisis, save the lives of hostages and alleviate Palestinians' sufferings.
This came during a telephone call between Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss regional developments topped with disastrous situations in Gaza and Iran's nuclear dossier, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
Abdelatty reviewed with Witkoff the latest negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza, mainly after Palestine's Hamas had approved the proposal, it added.
The statement stressed the need of exploiting the opportunity of Hamas' approval to take action to end the unfair war over about two years and set rules for a fair settlement to the Palestinian issue.
On Iran's nuclear file, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's position calling for de-escalation in the Middle East region, and avoiding military solutions of all crises, it noted.
He pointed to communications conducted by Egypt to restore to the legal path of talks in a way that ensures boosting regional and international security and stability.
It is imperative to continue joint action between Egypt and the United States to achieve security, peace and stability in the region, and end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the statement concluded. (end) aff.mmj.hm
