WASHINGTON, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders held talks on Monday with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
Zelensky said they have had "very good talks" today about "sensitive matters including security guarantees."
Trump said the US will provide security guarantees for Ukraine as part of any peace deal, and he claims Russia will accept them.
Trump added a ceasefire is not needed to negotiate ending the conflict, but President Emmanuel Macron of France and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz urge for a ceasefire.
President Trump said, "all of us would obviously prefer an immediate ceasefire while we work on a lasting peace, but I believe a peace agreement at the end of all of this is something that's very attainable."
Trump added, "I just spoke to President Putin indirectly, and we're going to have a phone call right after these meetings today, and we may or may not have a trilat."(end)
