AMMAN, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed on Monday his country's support for the efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which plays an irreplaceable and irreplaceable role in providing basic services, in accordance with its UN mandate.
In a statement, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this came during Safadi's meeting with Under-Secretary-General (USG) for the Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) Gilles Michaud, where they discussed regional developments and strengthening existing cooperation between Jordan and the United Nations.
The statement added that Safadi stressed the need to immediately halt the Israeli occupation's aggression against Gaza and support Qatari, Egyptian, and American efforts to implement an exchange agreement to achieve a permanent ceasefire.
Regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ways to enhance cooperation in delivering aid, Safadi stressed, "Gaza is facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as a result of the Israeli occupation's aggression and the use of starvation as a weapon, in flagrant violation of international law."
