RABAT, Aug 12 (KUNA) -- Mali has returned the historical manuscripts of the city of Timbuktu, which were moved to Bamako in 2012 for protection from armed groups, during an official ceremony attended by a ministerial delegation.
Local media reported on Tuesday that these ancient documents represent an invaluable cultural legacy of scholars and thinkers who left a prominent mark in the intellectual history of the Sahel region.
The control of armed groups over northern Mali in 2012 led to the destruction of historical sites in Timbuktu, prompting some residents to move manuscripts to Bamako for their protection, where part of them was restored on-site. (end) mry.sas
