JEDDAH, July 25 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's announced intention to officially recognize the Palestinian statehood.
In a press statement, OIC's Secretary-General Hissein Taha touted this step as being aligned with international law and reflecting France's support for the Palestinian people's rights, including self-determination and an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem being its capital.
He underlined that this announcement would contribute to promoting Palestine's political and legal status on the international scene, while calling on all countries that have not recognized the Palestinian statehood to do the same thing.
French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed on Thursday that Paris decided to officially recognize the Palestinian state in line with its commitment to achieving permanent and fair peace in the Middle East region. (end) fn.mt
