BEIJING, July 15 (KUNA) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called on member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to deepen cooperation in order to jointly oppose hegemonic practices and coercion to enhance mechanisms for addressing security threats and challenges-aiming to build a more just and multipolar global order.
This came in President Xi's speech during a meeting with heads of foreign delegations attending the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
According to China's official news agency, Xinhua, Xi emphasized the need for the organization to stay on the right course, strengthen mutual trust, and take efficient action to play a larger role in promoting global stability and injecting positive energy into an increasingly complex and turbulent international environment.
He noted that since its establishment 24 years ago, the SCO has forged a regional cooperation path in line with the spirit of the times and the interests of all parties, and that it has set a model for a new type of international relations, marked by deepening political trust among its members and fruitful cooperation across various fields.
President Xi urged member states to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation for shared development and pursue consensus based on equality and consultation
He also called for fostering harmony and inclusivity through respect for cultural diversity, with the goal of building a community with a shared future within the SCO framework.
President Xi further emphasized strengthening the Global South and leading efforts toward more inclusive economic globalization and a fairer, more rational system of global governance.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking on behalf of the attending delegations, said the SCO has consistently upheld mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, and pursuit of common development, and noted the organization's remarkable growth and increasing global appeal.
Lavrov stressed the importance of maintaining multilateralism and expressed support for China's efforts to ensure the success of the upcoming SCO summit, scheduled to take place in Tianjin in the coming days. (end)
