IRBIL, July 14 (KUNA) -- President of Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani and Commander of the Global Coalition forces in Iraq and Syria, General Kevin Leahy affirmed on Monday necessity of safeguarding Middle Eastern security and stability.
Kurdistan region presidency mentioned in a statement that this was in a meeting between Barzani and Leahy along with his accompanying delegation.
They delved into the political and security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Irbil-Baghdad relations, the reform and unification process of the Peshmerga forces, and the ongoing threat posed by the so-called ISIS and extremist activity across both Iraq and Syria.
Both sides agreed that ISIS remains a persistent danger and emphasized the need for continued coordination and joint efforts between Iraqi and Peshmerga forces and the international coalition to counter the terrorist organization.
Barzani renewed his thanks to the coalition for their role in countering terrorism in the region.
A number of military campaigns took place in several areas in Iraq against "ISIS", killing no less than eight militants and resulted in ceasing various weapons. (end)
