PARIS, July 8 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron is set to embark on a state visit to the United Kingdom on Tuesday, in response to an official invitation from King Charles III, the French Presidency announced in a statement.
This marks the first visit to the UK by European Union leader since Britain's withdrawal from the bloc, and reflects the deep-rooted historical ties between the two countries.
The visit, which will continue until Thursday, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several key areas of mutual interest, including defense, security, energy, culture, space, and artificial intelligence, as well as efforts to boost economic exchanges between Paris and London.
According to the statement, the visit also seeks to underscore the growing alignment between France and the UK on major international issues, particularly their joint support for Ukraine.
As part of the visit, President Macron will co-chair the 37th UK-France Summit alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where both leaders will discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and coordinate on regional and global developments. (end)
