BERLIN, June 3 (KUNA) -- A narrow majority of German citizens support suspending arms deliveries to Israel in light of the Gaza war, according to a survey released Tuesday by the opinion research institute Insa.
Based on the opinion poll, 58 percent of respondents supported a temporary halt to arms deliveries, 22 percent disagreed, and an almost equally large proportion, 19 percent, could not or did not want to answer the question.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, upon assuming office early May, called on the occupying government to halt its aggression on Gaza and to immediately allow the entry of humanitarian aid into the devastated Strip.
According to a briefing presented by the German Ministry of Economy to the opposition Left Party, Germany has exported weapons worth USD 553 million to the occupying state since October 7th, 2023. (end)
