NEW DELHI, March 7 (KUNA) -- India on Friday expressed its concern over the deteriorating security situation in neighbouring Bangladesh.
Official Spokesperson of Indian External Affairs Ministry Randhir Jaiswal said in a media briefing that New Delhi is concerned over deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh exacerbated by the release of violent extremists who were sentenced for serious crimes.
"We remain concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation, further exacerbated by the release of violent extremists, who were sentenced for serious crime," he said. He also stated that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh to protect Hindus and other minorities and their properties.
"We support a stable, peaceful, inclusive and progressive Bangladesh in which all issues are resolved through democratic means and by holding inclusive and participatory elections," Jaiswal said.
He also stated that there are several incidents of violence following the violent proeats in the country that were not investigated. "We expect Bangladesh to thoroughly investigate and bring all perpetrators of killings, arson, and violence to justice without making such distinctions," Jaiswal stressed.
Bangladesh is yet to come out of the political turmoil triggered since last August when government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted and she was forced to flee to India following weeks of student-led protests.
India-Bangladesh relations sow a downward trend as minority Hindu community and their religious places came under alleged attacks after the toppling of Hasina government expecially following the interim government under Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus was established. (end)
