LONDON, March 6 (KUNA) -- The UK lifted on Thursday asset freezes on 24 Syrian entities, including the Central Bank of Syria, that were previously used by the Assad regime to fund the oppression of the Syrian people.
In a statement, UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said the move underscored "our commitment to help Syrians rebuild their country and economy, including through support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition process".
The entities include also Syrian Arab Airlines, and energy companies, it added.
It noted, "At the same time, sanctions on members of the Assad regime and those involved in the illicit trade in captagon remain in place".
The statement pointed out that "we will continue to judge Syria's interim authorities by their actions, not their words." (end)
