WASHINGTON, July 1 (KUNA) -- US Central Command (USCENTCOM) announced late Sunday the target and destruction of three Houthi Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) in the Red Sea.
In a press briefing, USCENTCOM elaborated, "It was determined the USVs presented an imminent threat to US and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region. These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure."
"This continued malign and reckless behavior by the Iranian-backed Houthis threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of mariners across the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden," USCENTCOM added.
The US State Department announced, Saturday, US Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking's visits to Saudi Arabia and Oman, discussing "efforts to secure an immediate end to reckless Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and surrounding waterways." (end)
