BEIRUT, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- After withstanding the pressures of time, the craft of knitting using a manual loom machine has become a significant part of Lebanese culture and heritage attract both tourists and locals who appreciate handmade and adorned Abayas (robes) that are symbolic of Lebanon.
Though it faced a major decline in most cities, the Lebanese Abaya knitting craft endured for its deep cultural roots. The craft uses threads made of wool, silk, cotton, and linen with gold and silver embroideries to knit the Lebanese abaa'a, scarves, and Arabian seat coverings.
This distinct looming craft requires much patience and passion. It would take two months for a silk Abaya with gold embroideries to come to fruition, to organically dye the cloth, and to precisely weigh silk threads used. (end) ayb.za
