KUWAIT, June 9 (KUNA) -- Football fans around the world are anxiously awaiting the final EUFA Champions League match between Manchester City and Inter Milan in Ataturk Olympic Stadium, in Istanbul, on Saturday.
Man City came in the first place in the group stage, playing against Borussia Dortmund, Seville and Copenhagen. The team won four out of six matches with two draws, and scored 14 goals and received only two.
In the tie of 16 stage, Man City had a draw in front of Germany's Leipzig, later defeating the team 7-0 in Etihad Stadium.
In the quarter finals, the Citizens defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in England, while the away match was a draw 1-1 in Germany.
Meawhile in the semi-finals the team faced title holder Real Madrid, where the match was a draw in Santiago Bernabeu and won of 4-0 in England, to reach the Champions League final for the second time in the club's history.
Inter Milan on the other hand had a rough journey in the competition, coming in second place in the group that included Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Victoria Plzen, a group that was referred to as the "death" group.
Inter won three matches, had a draw in one and lost two out of six matches, scoring ten goals and receiving seven.
In the knockout stages, the team played against Porto, winning 1-0 in Milan and had a 0-0 draw in the away game. Inter also faced Benfica in the tie of eight stage, winning 3-0 in Portugal and had a 3-3 draw in Italy.
In the semi-finals, Inter faced its mortal enemy in Serie A, AC Milan, winning 2-0 in San Siro stadium, and winning 1-0 in the home game, reaching the final for the first time since 2010.
Ataturk Olympic Stadium in the Turkish capital was established in 2002 and has the capacity to fit 82,486 people. The stadium had previously hosted the Champions League final for the 2004/2005 season, coincedently between an English and an Italian team, Liverpool and AC Milan. The match ended in a 3-3 draw, and Liverpool was able to win by penalties. (end) hms.ysa.ag
