NEW DELHI, March 20 (KUNA) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held extensive talks with his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio touching upon several bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
In a joint press conference after talks with Kishida who arrived earlier today on a two-day visit, Modi said the meeting was productive and aims at strengthening India-Japan relationship and giving a voice to the global South which he underlined as an important pillar of India's G20 presidency.
He also stressed that India wanted to help the entire global family to achieve progress and prosperity.
Modi also underlined that this year is unique in that India and Japan are holding G20 and G7 presidency respectively and both can work together to set and achieve common interests and priorities Under the India-Japan Competitiveness Partnership, both countries have focused on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, logistics and food processing issues.
Modi also hoped that high level consultations between India and Japan will help to achieve new heights in ties.
Shared democratic values and respect for the rule of law in the international arena are at the roots of India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, the Indian PM said.
India and Japan stand to gain from this strengthening India-Japan Special partnership adding it will help to promote peace, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, he said. Cooperation in economy and commerce, defence and security, climate and energy and skill development also came up for discussion. (end) atk.hs
