CAIRO, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- An earthquake reaching six degrees on the Richter scale struck the Eastern Mediterranean region on Wednesday, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics said.
The quake, which was felt by people, caused neither casualties nor damage in Egypt, the institute's head Gad Al-Qadi was quoted by the country's state-owned news agency (MENA) as saying in a press statement.
The earthquake took place 501 kilometers from Egyptian coasts and was at a depth of 54 kilometers, he added. (end) asm.mt
