BRUSSELS, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) Thursday adopted a decision on assistance measures under the European Peace Facility (EPF) for armed forces in Lebanon and four other countries.
The assistance measure worth 6 million euro (USD 6.2 million) for Lebanon will enhance the capabilities and the resilience of the Lebanese Armed Forces to ensure the national security and stability of Lebanon through the enhancement of their military medical capacities, and the provision of equipment for the LAF's operational personnel, said an EU statement.
To achieve this objective, the assistance measure will finance healthcare equipment to support military medical services, and individual equipment.
The assistance was requested by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon in October 2022, it noted.
The EU's assistance measures also include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Mauritania and in support of the deployment of the Rwanda Defence Force in Mozambique.
The EU created the EPF in 2021 to support its partners around the world in the areas of military and defence, and with the ultimate aim of preventing conflict, preserving peace and strengthening international security and stability. (end) nk.mt
