CAIRO, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit Sunday emphasized that the power vacuum is not in favor of Lebanon's interests and its continuation will deepen the country's crisis.
This came during a meeting between Abul-Gheit and UN Special Coordinator Joanna Wronecka at the Cairo-based League's secretariat, the bloc said in a statement.
Abul-Gheit urged all parties and leaderships in Lebanon to end this vacuum as soon as possible through electing a new president to meet aspirations of all Lebanese and reach a consensus.
He stressed that the Arab League keeps pace with Lebanon in all its political phases, saying that ending the presidential vacuum is crucial at this stage for the country's stability to enable the government to perform its tasks and implement the necessary economic reforms that will end the suffering of the Lebanese people.
The meeting witnessed sharing views on the ongoing crisis of Lebanon and means of breaking this political deadlock from which Lebanese people are suffering, according to the statement.
Abul-Gheit also listened to Wronecka's assessment on situation and risks of the country's continued power vacuum. (end)
