ALGIERS, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- President of the African Confederation of Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe said Saturday the CAF Executive Committee decided to withdraw the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) from Guinea due to poor infrastructure and facilities.
In statements to the press on the sidelines of the final draw for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algiers, Dr. Motsepe affirmed that Guinea is not ready to host the world-class competition.
The CAF chief reopened the door for bidding to host the AFCON 2025.
Motsepe noted that he visited Guinea "out of respect to the people of Guinea to discuss CAF's willingness to advise and work together with the football stakeholders to construct and build football infrastructure and facilities in this country." "This will enable Guinea to bid with other competing nations for the CHAN, which will take place after the CHAN Algeria 2022, due between January 13 and February 4, 2023," he noted.
Earlier today, he had a meeting with the Guinea Transition President Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya to discuss Guinea's ability to proceed with the hosting of AFCON 2025 in the presence of CAF General-Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba. (end) mr.ams.gb
