MADRID, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- The newly operated direct flights between Kuwait and Madrid, commented a high official within the United Nations' World Tourism Organization Tuesday, will open up new horizons for travelers and tourists.
In an interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Head of regional department within the organization, Basmah Al-Mayman stated that the operation of this new line by Kuwait Airways, coincides with world tourism day, adding that this would allow Kuwaiti and European travelers the opportunity to travel to new destinations.
On the recovery of tourism sector post the coronavirus pandemic Al-Mayman, the first Arab woman to occupy this office, added that the region experienced an exponential growth in number of foreign visitors, four times higher than that of last year, an increase of 287 percent between January and July.
Furthermore, Al-Mayman highlighted that Qatar is the first Arab nation to host an event as substantial and exceptional as the world cup championship.
She clarified that a number of neighboring countries will also benefit from this especially as gulf countries agreed to facilitate travel-measures for world cup visitors and operate flights to and from their countries and Qatar. (end) hnd.aai
