RIYADH, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on Tuesday demanded that the social media and digital platforms should remove the content that violates the rules and regulations in force. The GCC Committee on Electronic Media and the Saudi Audio-Visual Media Authority issued the call in a joint statement following an urgent extraordinary meeting of the committee. The statement added that this demand comes given what was observed in the recent period that some digital content platforms, especially the (Netflix) platform, broadcast some visual materials that violate the media content controls in the GCC countries and contradict Islamic and societal values and principles. The statement indicated that accordingly, contact by made Netflix platform, which offers a variety of TV shows, series, various films, and documentaries to remove these contents, including those directed at children, asking them to abide by the controls and regulations in force and approved in the GCC countries. The statement confirmed that the concerned authorities would follow up on the extent of the commitment of the (Netflix) platform to the directives.
