KUWAIT, Aug 11 (KUNA)

1957 -- Ali Sayyed Sulaiman Al-Rifae, a renowned Kuwaiti public figure and businessman, passed away at age of 65. The deceased won elections of the Legislative Council in 1938 and was appointed in the Council of Knowledge in 1936. Al-Rifae was member in the first Municipal Council and contributed to major projects like the establishment of the National Bank of Kuwait and Kuwait Airways.
1963 -- Qadsia Sporting Club (SC), which was originally established in October 1960, was formally announced. The Hawally-based club aimed at promoting cultural, social and health lifestyles.
1974 -- Kuwait Sciences Club established with the objective of sponsoring scientific activities as well as developing scientific skills and knowledge among youth.
1990 -- The Iraqi regime published a daily newspaper and called it Al-Nedaa, nine days after invading and occupying the State of Kuwait. The Iraqi regime used printing machines of Kuwaiti newspapers to publish its paper.
1990 -- State of Kuwait witnessed a full solar eclipse which began at 1:45 p.m. and lasted until 3:10 p.m.
1991 -- Sulaiman Al-Marshood, one of Kuwait's leading businessman in the perfume business, passed away at 101. Al-Marshood was among the first Kuwaitis to bring Bukhoor from India in the 1920s and launched a Hajj mission in late 1930s.
2011 -- Kuwait-based Islamic International Charitable Organization (IICO) executed the first phase of a relief campaign for Somalia.
2017 -- Abdulhussain Abdulredha, one of Kuwait's and Gulf's iconic actors, passed away at 78.
2018 -- Kuwait women figure skating team won 17 gold, seven silver and three bronze medals at the Asian championship that was held in Bangkok, Thailand. (end) bs
