AMMAN, Aug 10 (KUNA) -- The Syrian army said on Wednesday that it had killed the leader of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), Abu Salem Al-Iraqi, south of the country.
The Syrian News Agency (SANA), quoted a security source as saying that "security authorities have carried out a special operation during which the military leader of the terrorist organization (ISIS) was eliminated in the town of Adwan in the suburb of Daraa." The source added that the Syrian army launched a military operation against terrorist groups of several nationalities that tried to infiltrate from the Neirab area towards the village of Jobas in the eastern Idlib," adding that most of these gunmen were killed or wounded.
The Syrian crisis, which has been going on since 2011, has claimed more than 350,000 lives and displaced more than 12 million people. (end) ab.mb
