CAIRO, June 28 (KUNA) -- The supreme criminal court on Tuesday issued a death verdict against ten members of the outlawed Brotherhood organization.
Official Middle East News Agency (MENA) said the grand mufti issued an edict approving the convicts' execution, in compliance with the Islamic Shariaa (law), noting that the ten Brotherhood members had been condemned for premeditated killing and attempted killing of police officers and citizens.
The Brotherhood activists have been convicted in the locally branded "Halwan battalions" case.
The late public prosecutor, justice Hisham Barakat had referred 215 Brotherhood members to the criminal court for forming armed groups known as "Halwan battalions," to attack civilians, police members and sabotage public properties.
Investigations revealed that imprisoned Brotherhood members had plotted behind iron bars to oust the ruling system. Some of the plotters who were released from prison had formed the terrorist groups. (end) aff.rk
