BERLIN, June 24 (KUNA) -- The German Government on Friday called on the international community to set "mechanisms" for facing the global hunger crisis due to severe shortago of cereals.
Foreign Minister Analena Baerock said in a statement at start of an international conference hosted by Berlin that USD 46 billion are required to spare the world hunger, noting that only half of the sum has been secured so far.
The Ukraine war is the main cause for the grain shortage, she said, accusing Russia of causing it, saying Russia "is using hunger as a weapon and the world as a war hostage." The convention is held ahead of the G7 meeting due in southern Germany on June 26-28. (end) anj.rk
