KUWAIT, June 23 (KUNA) -- 1972 -- State of Kuwait stopped begging the local currency, Dinar, to the Sterling Pound after floating of the British currency. The Dinar was begged to the US Dollar.
1987 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree to organize air transport market.
1990 -- ACICO Group -- a full-service, multi-sector construction group, based in Kuwait -- was established to produce ready-mix concrete.
1997 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree to join the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. Kuwait became the 93rd State to ratify the convention, which was signed on December 22, 1995.
2000 -- US Congress approved a bill calling for the release of more than 600 Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraqi jails.
2008 -- Kuwait's Mohammad Mutlaq Al-Azmi won the 800m race in Casablanca athletics championship in Morocco.
2010 -- State of Kuwait and the US signed a memorandum of cooperation on safety of nuclear materials and peaceful use of nuclear energy. Cooperation also included development of human resources, environment protection, safety and health issues.
2011 -- The Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah won the parliament's confidence in a 25-18 vote. Six MPs abstained.
2011 -- Kuwaiti MPs Musallam Al-Barrak, Faisal Al-Meslem and Khaled Al-Tahous submitted a request to interpellate the Prime Minister.
2018 -- Ministry of Health announced that World Health Organization (WHO) certified its Polio Laboratory as a testing center for the Middle East region. (end) gta
