DOHA, May 28 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Relief Society on Saturday signed an agreement with the Afghan Red Crescent Society to secure food for the needy in Afghanistan.
Jamal Al-Nouri, the treasurer and head of the relief committee at the Kuwaiti society, said in a statement to KUNA that the accord envisages delivery of more than 9,000 food parcels in five Afghani provinces, in coordination with the Afghan relief association.
"The Afghan fezaa campaign" is being executed in line with a request by the Kuwaiti Government, Al-Nouri said, noting that the campaign has drawn substantial response from official departments, Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates.
The Kuwaiti Relief Society is the umbrella entity for a number of Kuwaiti charities in this campaign -- all registered by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Al-Nouri said, also noting that the relief efforts have been exerted in coordination with the ministry of foreign affairs and the Kuwaiti embassy in Qatar.
The Afghan Red Crescent Society is "an official partner empowered to implement all terms of the accord," he added.
He has indicated that there will be more accords, aimed at funding mobile clinics, aiding children and mothers as well as distributing more food to the limited income people in Afghanistan.
(The term fezaa is an old Arabic word meaning A call for collective and urgent action in dire conditions). (end) nnd.rk
