WASHINGTON, May 25 (KUNA) -- The US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) said Tuesday, "We are aware of the multiple DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) ballistic missile launches today." USINDOPACOM said in a statement "(We) are assessing and consulting closely with our allies and partners." "While this event does not pose an immediate threat to US personnel or territory, or to our allies, the missile launches highlights the destabilizing impact of the DPRK's illicit weapons program," the statement affirmed.
It stressed "the US commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad." Meanwhile, a White House official said that President Joe Biden "has been briefed on the DPRK ballistic missile launches today and will continue to be briefed as information develops." South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that North Korea has fired "at least three ballistic missile in an easterly direction on Wednesday morning local time." (end) si.gta
