ABU DHABI, May 24 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday reported its first case of monkeypox in a traveler who arrived in the Gulf Arab state from West Africa, the health ministry said.
The person in question, a 29-year old woman, is receiving medical treatment for the virus, while efforts are ongoing to track down anyone who may have come into contact with her, according to a ministry statement.
It went on to advise the general public to keep abreast of the viral disease through information posted on official sources.
Monkeypox cases have been identified in a number of countries as of late, including Britain, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Canada and the United States. (end) bsu.nam
